Creating Champions in Life

FAQ

What is the difference between karate and Tae Kwon Do?
Karate is often a generic term to represent all martial arts.  Karate is a Japanese form of martial arts.  Unlike Karate, Tae Kwon Do focuses on using more kicks when defending against attackers.  It is said that the leg is three times stronger than the arm!  And with the leg being longer than the arm, why not focus on the legs when defending yourself? Yet, at Kentucky Tae Kwon Do we focus on teaching self defense to everyone regardless of age, gender and athletic ability.

How will Tae Kwon Do training benefit me or my family?
Tae Kwon Do will not only benefit you or your family physically, but mentally as well.  At Kentucky Tae Kwon Do and Fitness Academy, we stress the “life skills” or tenets of Tae Kwon Do; Courtesy, Integrity, Perseverance, Self-Control and Indomitable Spirit.  If one has all five of these, one will achieve Victory.

Tae Kwon Do is also an excellent family activity!  What better way to bond than to achieve your black belts together?  “A family that kicks together, sticks together!”

What types of classes are offered?
We have classes for all ages.  We separate students into Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced levels. You will never have to worry about being thrown into a class that you are not prepared for.  Tae Kwon Do Training is your own journey, therefore, you may progress faster than others, or you may wish to take your time.  We also offer classes for our competitive students who wish to compete nationally or at an Olympic level.  These are specialized Elite Training Classes.

How often do students attend, and is the schedule flexible?
We offer over 30 classes per week, Monday through Saturday, every week.  Most students average two and three classes per week.  However, it is your choice to attend any day, any week for as much or as little as you like.  We understand your schedule is sometimes hectic,  that is why we offer classes early and late every day, so that people from all over Louisville, KY can attend.

Do students have to compete in Tournaments?
Absolutely not!  Only 10 percent of our enrollment wish to compete.  We offer tournaments to those that show interest or abilities, and happen to be well recognized throughout the county for what our Tournament Team has achieved.

Will Tae Kwon Do Training make my child a “Bully”?
At Kentucky Tae Kwon Do and Fitness Academy, we teach children important life skills through Tae Kwon Do Training.  From day one, students understand that they are not learning how to fight, but rather how to build a more peaceful world and how to become a “Champion in Life!”  This means avoiding confrontations if at all possible, avoiding peer pressure and becoming a leader and not a follower.

At what age can my child start?
We suggest parents wait until their child is at least four years old, however, during our introductory trial program we will be able to see what program fits your child best.

How much does it cost after the trial program?
We have several different programs that vary in cost. After the introductory program you as well as the instructors can see what program will benefit your child best!

How do I get started?
Excellent!  Every journey comes with a first step and you have just taken it!  Either E-mail us with your contact information or call (502) 241-5910 to set up your first introductory Tae Kwon Do class.  We will give 30 minute introductory classes Monday – Thursday every week from 3:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. We look forward to hearing from you!
